We are happy and honored that well known artist Richard H. Alpert from San Francisco is now a member of the Sculpture Forest family.  Richard has created noteworthy art since the 1970s spanning sculpture, painting, drawing, abstract films, and performance art.  He has exhibited across the nation, was a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant recipient, and is in many prominent collections.  When we put together a dinner gathering in his honor with local Sculpture Forest volunteers and artists, we also learned how genuinely good hearted he and his wife Camille are to everyone around them.

Richard’s sculpture “Giant Mic.” is newly installed on the Whimsy Way trail.  It is representative of a classic RCA microphone that was used by broadcasting stars over time such as Dick Clark, Larry King, and David Letterman.  The size and presentation of the sculpture points to how we communicate as a culture plus how far we continue to evolve technologically.  The “RHA” logo on the front is some mild visual humor using the artist’s initials instead of the RCA company’s initials.

Via the onsite self-guided tour, you are invited to learn more about the story of how and why this new sculpture was created.  And take a picture of yourself standing by it while belting out a great song like a pro!
